An increasing opportunity is being afforded members to participate in themes/memes hosted by the portal, which are spread across the 2013 calendar. Please keep in mind that all activities offered by the portal are voluntary, and will appeal to a changing cross-section of our membership. There will be two opportunities each month to participate in a portal-based theme.
The first-of-the-month Theme Day remains, save New Year's Day. The February theme is 'umbrellas', with the March theme subject to your vote until 31st January.
There are four festivals inserted into the 2013 calendar, three of them following the transit of the sun, and with a photographic element, for those members who emphasise the PHOTO in City Daily Photo.
We now inform you of our final tweaking for the year ahead, wherein we invite members to post about the significance of a limited number of 'national days'. These specific days were selected taking into account the spread of nationality of our members, and the available mid-month slots once the Festival dates were taken into account. The chosen National Days are:
26 January - Australia Day6 February - Waitangi Day, New Zealand23 April - St George's Day, England17 May - Constitution Day, Norway14 July - Bastille Day, France15 August -Independence Day, India12 October - National Day, Spain18 November - National Day, Latvia6 December - Independence Day, Finland
I acknowledge that this list does not have an option from The Americas, which I will endeavour to rectify for 2014. And, of course, not all members may be able to compose a post about the significance of, say, the Latvian National Day, in their own neighbourhood, but many will relish the challenge.
This information will be summarised for you in the Theme Day side-bar, once a couple of technical hitches involving the TD side-bar have been ironed out.
